Tesla is recalling nearly 240,000 cars due to a camera malfunction that could potentially lead to dangerous road incidents.
While Elon Musk often dominates headlines for his involvement with Twitter, it’s important to remember he is also the founder and owner of Tesla.

Tesla is currently facing an issue requiring the recall of a significant number of its vehicles.

According to filings with the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the company is recalling 239,382 cars.

The issue arises from the possibility of losing the rearview camera feed when starting the vehicle.

GB News reports that this problem, affecting only a small fraction of the recalled vehicles, is linked to a ‘reverse current’ potentially causing a short circuit in the car’s computer board.

This situation also violates U.S. car safety standards, which all vehicles must adhere to.

Drivers, especially those with a Tesla, understand that a malfunctioning rearview camera can hinder visibility and increase the risk of accidents.

As of December 30, 2024, Tesla reported 887 warranty claims and 68 field reports related to this issue.

Which Tesla models are affected by the recall?

The 2024-2025 Tesla Model 3 and the 2024-2025 Tesla Model 3 are included, along with the Model X and Model Y from 2023-2025.

Tesla is equipping current production Model 3, Model S, and Model X with a different car computer variant.

The company has become known for large-scale vehicle recalls in recent years.

In the past year, over 5 million cars were recalled by Tesla, more than any other automaker.

For instance, in May, around 125,000 Model S and Model X vehicles made between 2021 and 2023 were recalled to check the proper connection of first-row seat belts to pretensioner anchors.

In July, 1.8 million vehicles were recalled due to a bonnet issue where the software failed to detect an unlatched hood.

In December, nearly 700,000 vehicles were recalled because of a system fault that could ‘increase the risk of crashing’.
