While Richard Gere was filming “Time Out of Mind,” in New York, a tourist from Paris thought he was a homeless man. In the movie, Gere acted along with stars, Kyra Sedgwick and Steve Buscemi in 2014.

74-year-old famous and talented actor was playing the role of a man who had mental illness, and was living on the streets after he was forced out from his apartment.

In a movie scene, he was supposed to be a homeless man, and then he dressed in rags and sat on the street in his attire, where thousands of people were passing through him.

“I was out there for the very first shot, 40 minutes plus – no one made eye contact with me, I was in character,” he said. “I was in one of the busiest places in New York. If I had been Richard Gere there, I wouldn’t have lasted 30 seconds.”

“It was just I wasn’t the movie star and people’s projections on what they saw from the body language and where I was in the street filled in these spaces with an erroneous story,” famous actor said.

“No one gave him a cent. No one even recognized him. And that proved the whole point: The homeless are all around us and we don’t see them.” Oren Moverman, director of the movie shared.

After the movie, Richard Gere used his co-actor Jenna Malone’s social media account to share something. Here is the post:

“Hi, Richard Gere here. I was completely surprised to find that last week someone posted a photo of me on a Facebook fan page as a homeless man on the streets of New York…”
