Searching for something fresh to watch during the Thanksgiving holiday? You might want to check out the series hailed as ‘best ever,’ which has captivated viewers to the point where they feel compelled to ‘watch it over again’.
After the festivities of Thanksgiving and the hustle of Black Friday, what could be better than a relaxed Saturday in front of the TV with a new show?
Recently, a ‘super intense’ film has been lauded as the ‘best movie ever’, and a series that has kept audiences engaged for the past seven years continues to gain attention.
Currently, there is another Netflix series on everyone’s mind, originally airing on ITV in the UK back in 2016.
Written by the acclaimed Hans Rosenfeldt, Marcella is a British drama featuring Anna Friel in the titular role of Marcella Backland, a police detective based in London.
Marcella encounters numerous challenges in the city, beginning with the discovery of a missing child’s body hidden within a wall. As the series progresses through three seasons, the main character continues to face complex situations.
The cast joining Friel includes Ray Panthaki, Nicholas Pinnock, Jamie Bamber, Nina Sosanya, Jack Doolan, and Harry Lloyd.
Although the first season of Marcella premiered in 2016 and the latest, season three, in 2020, it remains a popular topic on Netflix discussion boards.
It’s a frequent topic in the ‘Netflix Bangers’ Facebook group, where a member initiated a discussion by saying: “I’m hooked on this at the minute it’s so good!!”
Another comment enthusiastically noted: “It was so good you could watch it over,” while a third simply exclaimed: “Best ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Season one of Marcella holds a respectable 73 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, although season two was rated lower by critics at 57 percent.
However, season three from 2020 is regarded as a significant improvement, achieving an 80 percent score on the review site.
Suzi Feay from the Financial Times wrote: “Friel is watchful, wary, mostly blank as the unfathomable Marcella. The emotion only shows when she’s mid-snog. You can predict to the second when the eyes will open for that over-his-shoulder panic look.”
Steve Murray of Arts ATL commented: “Friel is strong, and she has a good nemesis in Amanda Burton as the steely matriarch of the family.”
Marcella is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
