Mike Tyson is currently entangled in a costly legal battle with a gambling firm based in Cyprus.
The former heavyweight champion had reportedly entered a promotional agreement with Medier, a company registered in Cyprus that promotes the online casino and betting platform Rabona. However, Tyson allegedly did not fulfill his contractual obligations, opting instead to engage in a bout with Jake Paul.

The lawsuit was initiated in London in October, with Medier claiming that Tyson, along with his company Tyrannic, terminated their agreement from January when the Netflix special was publicized in March.

Medier is accused of breaching the contract, which Tyson used as grounds to terminate the agreement.

The gambling firm, however, has refuted any allegations of misconduct, asserting that their actions did not violate the terms of the deal, according to a report by USA Today.

Medier alleges that Tyson’s actions have resulted in damages amounting to approximately 1.46 million euros ($1.59 million).

“The true reason for Mr Tyson and Tyrannic’s hasty and unlawful termination was because Mr Tyson had agreed a deal, sponsored by Netflix, to fight the influencer Jake Paul,” the company’s lawyer stated in documents released on Friday (December 6).

It appears that Tyson and Tyrannic have not yet responded with a defense to the lawsuit, but Tyson’s representatives have issued a statement to The New York Post.

“It is the company’s position that Medier, Ltd. materially breached the terms of its license agreement on multiple occasions and in various ways,” the statement read.

“As such, Tyrannic, LLC was well within its legal and contractual rights to terminate the license agreement for material breach in an effort to mitigate additional reputational harm to the Tyson brand.”

UNILAD has also reached out to Tyson’s representatives for further comment.

On November 16, Tyson faced off against Jake Paul, with the YouTuber-turned-boxer emerging victorious over the boxing icon.

The fight, which consisted of eight rounds, took place at the AT&T Stadium in Texas and was broadcast on Netflix. The scores were 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73, all in favor of Paul.

Despite losing, Tyson, who is 58 years old, indicated he might not be done with boxing yet.

After the fight, Tyson spoke to Netflix and suggested he might consider future matches.

When asked if it was his final appearance in a boxing ring, Tyson replied: “I don’t know. It depends on the situation.”

“I don’t think so,” he continued.

He even issued a challenge to Jake Paul’s older brother, Logan, who appeared willing to accept.

When asked who he might fight next, Tyson pointed to Logan and said, “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe his brother.”

Logan responded by saying he’d ‘kill’ Tyson, seemingly in acceptance of the challenge.
