There are many things in life you wouldn’t want to be serial at, such as being a serial dater, offender, or killer. However, being a serial lottery winner sounds like a dream for many.

Winning the lottery even once seems like a rare occurrence, but Richard Lustig from Orlando, Florida, defies the odds.

Richard didn’t just win once or twice. He won seven times in total, claiming significant prizes across seven different state-sponsored lottery games between 1993 and 2010, amassing a substantial amount.

His seven victories have earned him over a million dollars. While it might not reach the mega millions, most of us would be thrilled to have a million in the bank.

Luckily for those of us who might have struggled with math in school, Richard’s strategies don’t rely on complex calculations.

He advises, “The three things you can do to increase your chances of winning a lottery game is to pick your own numbers and stick with them every time; set a budget; and never spend rent or grocery money to play a lottery game.”

His first piece of advice is to choose your numbers and remain consistent, whether they are birthdays or lucky numbers. However, Forbes notes that lottery numbers are selected randomly, so no particular combination can increase your chances on any single occasion.

Richard’s second tip is straightforward: establish a budget.

This is certainly sound advice. Winning $10,000 isn’t as impressive if you’ve already spent $20,000 on tickets.

His third suggestion is an extension of the second.

Richard advises never to use rent or grocery money to buy lottery tickets.

One apparent way to enhance your winning odds is by joining a lottery pool.

While you’ll have to share any winnings with other members, your chances of winning a prize are higher.

The key takeaway from Richard’s guidance is to always play responsibly.
