Fans have eagerly awaited the follow-up season after its announcement in June 2022, enduring a long three-year gap.
The second season of Squid Game premiered today (December 26), and anticipation had been building online even before its release.
“WHY AM I SO SCARED TO WATCH SQUID GAME 2,” a Twitter user expressed.
Another commented: “Squid game s2 got me holding my breathhhhhh omg.”
Many viewers planned to binge-watch the new episodes. “Yaaay I can finally binge Squid Game 2,” one person stated.
Another shared on the Facebook page Netflix Bangers: “I’m ready to binge this it’s been too long.”
Despite being newly released, viewers are already sharing their impressions.
“Squid Game season 2 is 10x better than the first,” praised a Twitter user.
“Squid Game 2 is amazing so far,” remarked another who has started watching the season.
A third added: “First episode of Squid Game season 2 is amazing already WOW.”
Regarding the first episode, someone mentioned, “I thought Squid Game season 2 would be whack but the first episode itself is so good.”
The demand for a second season was high after the first season’s success, but initially, its creator hadn’t planned a sequel.
The decision to create a second season was largely influenced by financial factors.
In an interview with the BBC, Hwang Dong-hyuk explained that he didn’t earn much from the first season’s success.
“Even though the first series was such a huge global success, honestly I didn’t make much,” he revealed.
“So doing the second series will help compensate me for the success of the first one too.”
Besides financial benefits, Dong-hyuk acknowledged that the story wasn’t entirely concluded in the first season.
A third season is already in development and is anticipated to be released next year.
