For those who have already raced through the newly released second season of Squid Game, perhaps during the quieter moments of Boxing Day, then this film could be your next binge-watch. It’s been described by some Netflix viewers as ‘one of the craziest movies’ they’ve ever experienced.
Created by Alan B. McElory and directed by Brad Anderson, this psychological thriller features performances from Sam Worthington of Avatar fame, Lily Rabe from American Horror Story, Stephen Tobolowsky known for Groundhog Day, and Adjoa Andoh from Bridgerton.
The plot revolves around Ray Monroe (played by Worthington), whose wife and injured daughter mysteriously disappear after visiting an emergency room. Ray becomes convinced that the hospital staff is withholding the truth.
The film, titled Fractured, made its debut at Fantastic Fest in September 2019 and became available on Netflix the following October. However, it seems that a new wave of viewers is just now discovering it.
Fractured did not receive overwhelmingly positive feedback on Rotten Tomatoes, where it holds a tomatometer score of 56 percent and a popcorn score of 53 percent.
Despite this, the film was highlighted on the LADbible Facebook Group Netflix Bangers, with one user commenting: “One of the most craziest movies I have ever watched. What a thriller!”
Another user chimed in: “Yes I watched it like two years ago definitely was a good watch with a plot twist.”
A third person noted: “Watched this movie after seeing this post… really good one.. worth my time and thanks for recommending.”
The movie’s ending, in particular, has sparked significant discussion online.
On a since-deleted Reddit thread in r/movies, a user asked for opinions on the film.
They noted: “Is not the greatest suspense movie of all time but it does the job to entertain you and make you wonder if your theory is the real one. It’s in fact a little bit predictable but as I said before until the end you can’t be 100 percent sure that is what you thought, the ending explains too much it would have been better if they had left us in doubt about what happened, but it’s not bad at all. Enjoyable movie, a lot better than the standard Netflix films.”
Another viewer added: “Just finished watching this one. Had no expectations really. Ended up really enjoying it. Thought it was well acted and it kept you guessing. Thought it got a little bit bats**t near the end and verging on unbelievable, but it managed to just keep it together. I’d recommend.”
