For many, a cruise represents a time of relaxation, watching the world pass by, exploring new destinations, and enjoying cocktails by the pool. However, diver Ginni van Katwijk had a different perspective when she boarded Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas.
In an Instagram video, the diver reveals the view from a high dive board and demonstrates with ease and confidence how she can dive from 55 feet above into the pool below.
Social media users were certainly amazed, with some admitting that just looking at the scene made them uneasy, not to mention the thought of diving from that height.
While intimidating enough on solid ground, conditions can sometimes become unpredictable on a cruise ship.
For those thrill-seekers interested in trying it out, only trained professionals are allowed to leap from the high deck into the pool, not the passengers.
Hosting more than 5,000 passengers and crew, the cruise ship offers mesmerizing performances from Katwijk and the high diving team at the AquaTheater onboard.
In the video, Katwijk shows how small the pool appears from the diving board.
She indicates where she intends to land, while also pointing out other sections within the pool before giving a thumbs-up and mentally preparing herself for the dive.
Looking into the camera, Katwijk pumps herself up, saying she is about to perform the dive as usual.
“Easy peasy,” she remarks, just before making the leap and executing acrobatic moves to land precisely where intended.
Honestly, you’d have to pay me a substantial sum to attempt such a jump… well, maybe I would consider it since rent is high, but you understand the hesitation.
Other Instagram users echoed this nervousness and expressed their feelings in the now-viral clip.
“My anxiety is going crazy and I’m not even in the video,” one user commented.
“Having the guts to climb that high is a challenge within itself for me,” noted another.
Another added: “The types of screams I would have scrumpt seeing a body fly by me whilst sipping on a pina colada.”
One more remarked: “That should be illegal.”
Finally, a user questioned: “How is this allowed?”
