A manager was caught on camera insisting that a group of patrons provide a tip to their server, sparking a debate about the norms surrounding tipping.

The issue of tipping often ignites passionate discussions. For those who have worked in the service industry, tips are essential for making ends meet in an expensive world.

When servers don’t receive tips, it can negatively impact their finances and morale.

There are differing opinions on tipping: some believe it should be automatic, while others think it should reflect the quality of service received.

While not receiving tips can be disappointing, it’s generally up to the customer to decide if they want to tip.

Today, more people argue that restaurants should offer wages that allow employees to live comfortably without relying on tips, fueling an ongoing debate.

However, what happens when someone tries to enforce tipping on those unwilling to do so?

This is the question that has divided people online.

User @gladys_nicole posted a video on TikTok showcasing a restaurant manager’s bold move.

The video, which has amassed over two million views, shows the manager asking customers to tip their server.

The TikToker mentioned that the group spent hours at the establishment, enjoying beers and playing pool.

Though the manager’s conversation with the group isn’t entirely audible, he seems to remind them to tip, accompanied by a gesture indicating money.

Gladys claims the manager ensured they couldn’t leave without tipping.

In the caption, she noted: “A group of men not tipping the waitress after HOURS of beer and pool table time. Restaurant manager MADE SURE she was paid!”

While Gladys sided with the manager, others argued that fair wages would eliminate the need for tips.

“Oh you mean the money HE and HIS COMPANY should be paying her?? Tipping culture is ridiculous. Properly pay waiters and waitresses already,” commented one user.

Another added, “When you don’t tip your servers or bartenders they are quite literally paying out of their own pocket for you to come out and have a good time. Come on. Be better people.”

“What’s really going manager POV: We do not and will not give them a raise so that is where customers come in so I need you to do your part now,” wrote a third user. “I love how people will be willing to pay 30% more for food rather than tip a server 20%.”
