Directed and written by Halina Reijn, the film stars Kidman as a married CEO who begins a romantic affair with an intern, leading to several intimate scenes throughout the movie.
Kidman has spoken about feeling ‘safe’ during these ‘vulnerable’ scenes, but admitted to The Sun that the frequent nature of the scenes led to moments of frustration: “There were times when we were shooting where I was like, ‘I don’t want to orgasm anymore’. Don’t come near me. I hate doing this. I don’t care if I am never touched again in my life! I’m over it.”
“It was so present all the time for me that it was almost like a burnout.”
One viewer found these scenes particularly awkward due to the company they were with at the cinema.
In a TikTok video shared earlier this month, Matt Giffen expressed: “Two things I wish I knew before watching Babygirl.”
“Number one, don’t go watch that motherf**ker with a family member. It’s basically an hour-and-a-half porn video.”
“Number two. Don’t make the mistake I made and go and watch that b***h in like a very small intimate movie theater where you’re shoulder-to-shoulder.”
Why? Well, spoilers ahead.
Giffen mentioned a particular scene ‘where she’s getting […] for like 10 minutes straight’.
He added: “My kneecap was touching the old geezer’s kneecap besides me.”
“It was more awkward than what was happening on the screen, bro. I felt like I wanted to die, it was so uncomfortable.”
Despite the discomfort, Giffen praised the film: “Don’t get me wrong, Nicole Kidman smashed it. That lad in the film, he’s gonna be set for life. It was actually a really good movie.”
He concluded with some advice: “Just two things to know: No family member, do not be sitting next to some random geeze grazing his kneecaps. Do not be doing it – from experience, trust me, please trust me.”
Other viewers quickly shared their thoughts in response.
One TikToker commented: “Bruh I watched Poor Things with a parent not knowing what it was about.”
Another asked: “Y’all don’t watch the trailer first?”
And a third decided: “I WILL be watching this movie alone.”
