In just a few days, President-elect Donald Trump is set to return to the White House, bringing with him First Lady Melania Trump. This move marks a return to familiar territory for the couple, as they previously called the White House home during Trump’s first term in office.
On the morning of January 19, 2021, the Republican nominee and his family will depart from their current residence to reclaim the prestigious White House, a place they have occupied before. Melania Trump, in particular, is no stranger to the role and responsibilities of the First Lady.

Reflecting on their first transition into the White House in 2017, Melania appeared to subtly criticize former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. In an interview with FOX News’ Ainsley Earhardt, she discussed her upcoming documentary and the process of returning to the White House.

Known for keeping a low profile, Melania released a memoir last October, sharing details of her first meeting with Donald Trump in a New York City nightclub, among other personal stories.

Despite largely staying out of the spotlight during her husband’s 2024 presidential campaign, she did make headlines and sparked rumors of a ‘body double’ after appearing on election day.

Although the title of the upcoming film is not yet public, Melania’s ‘truly unique story’ will be featured in a new Amazon Prime Video production, scheduled for release in the latter half of 2025.

In her conversation with Earhardt, Melania was questioned about how this move to the White House differs from their previous transition. She responded:

“The difference is I know where I will be going, I know the rooms where we will be living, I know the process,” she stated.

Melania seemed to suggest that the transition from the Obamas was less than smooth, noting: “The first time was challenging, we didn’t have much of the information, the information was upheld [withheld] for [from] us from previous administration.

“But this time I have everything, I have the plans. I could move in, I already packed – I already selected the furniture that needs to go in.

“So, it’s [a] very different transition this time, second time around.”

When asked about her plans for decorating the White House, Melania indicated a desire to make only a few changes, but confirmed that she does intend to personalize the space.

Currently, President Biden and his family are residing in the White House, but will be vacating the premises on January 20, according to Melania.

“What happens on January 20, the transition team has only five hours to move [the] Bidens out and to move us in,” she explained. “Everything has to be planned to the minute.”
