A 28-year-old bodybuilder tragically passed away in front of his friends while they were exercising together.
Jose Mateus Correia Silva, from Brazil, had been involved in bodybuilding competitions and was well-regarded within the community.
His sudden passing was a shock, especially to his friends who witnessed the heart attack.
Jose was exercising at a gym in Aguas Claras, Brasilia, when he suddenly collapsed.
A firefighter friend quickly transported him to a nearby fire station in an attempt to save his life, but unfortunately, after an hour of efforts, he could not be revived.
The exact cause of the heart attack that claimed his life remains unknown.
While tributes have been pouring in online for the bodybuilding enthusiast, some social media users have speculated that steroids might have played a role in his death. However, there is currently no evidence to support this claim.
His brother Tiago mentioned to local media that Jose was in good health and physical condition.
Speaking about his brother, he said: “You were incredible. Thank you for so much. I love you.”
“Heaven has gained an angel. Jose was a much-loved man.”
The funeral for Jose drew hundreds of attendees, overflowing the service space.
Tiago said: “There were so many people they couldn’t fit inside the chapel.”
“We had an evangelical ceremony and a Catholic one. It wasn’t a sad ceremony although there was a lot of emotion.”
At the time of his death, Jose was not competing but was working out to stay active.
In addition to his own training, the skilled lawyer was known for assisting other bodybuilders in preparing for competitions.
A similar incident occurred in Brazil a few months earlier when a 26-year-old bodybuilder passed away.
Antônio Souza, who had taken up bodybuilding competitions five years ago in hopes of supporting his mother and sister better, had shared with his wife, Yone Silva, about experiencing ‘strong chest pain’ on August 3, before competing at the Navega Open in Santa Catarina.
After securing a top-three position in his category and winning a trophy, Souza reportedly suffered cardiac arrest on stage.
Despite medical attention at the event, he could not be revived.
