A baggage handler has advised travelers against attaching ribbons to their suitcases.

When you find yourself at the airport baggage claim, you may suddenly realize your luggage looks remarkably similar to other bags (unless you’ve opted for a brightly colored case).

To avoid confusion, many travelers add a personal touch to their luggage, such as tying a ribbon, to help distinguish it from others.

However, despite seeming like a clever solution, a baggage handler has highlighted potential problems that can arise from attaching ribbons to your suitcase.

In an interview with RSVP Live, Dublin Airport baggage handler John noted: “Ribbons that people tie onto their suitcases to help identify them can cause issues with the bag being scanned in the baggage hall.”

He explained further: “If the bag can’t be scanned automatically, it might require manual processing, potentially causing it to miss the flight.”

In short, it may be worth considering investing in a distinctive bag, such as a bright pink one.

Old travel stickers can also pose challenges, as John warned: “If the bag can’t be scanned automatically, it might end up in manual processing, possibly leading to missed flights.”

Certain foods can be problematic as well, particularly marzipan. Although it may seem unrelated, the issue lies in its density.

John elaborated: “Don’t ever pack marzipan in your luggage. Its density is similar to some explosives, which could trigger a bag search, halting your travel plans.”

Additionally, he suggested placing your suitcase wheels-up to minimize damage when checking in your luggage.

Travel experts like John often share valuable insights. For instance, a flight attendant has explained why wearing shorts on a plane might not be the best idea.

According to the crew member, known as @tommycimato on TikTok, shorts might expose you to more germs. “Don’t or try not to wear shorts when you’re on an airplane. It’s the same thing as the window, you never know how clean it’s gonna be, so if you have pants, you’re gonna have less germs,” he advised.

He also recommended using a tissue or napkin when flushing the toilet mid-flight to avoid unsanitary conditions.

“It’s honestly just super unsanitary and pretty gross,” Tommy remarked. “So when you flush, use a napkin or tissue that’s in the lavatory.”

Point taken!
