A woman experienced an eye-opening moment when she decided to explore the dating app Hinge while impersonating her male friend.
Although dating can often be challenging for many, this particular woman had her perspective completely altered upon witnessing the experiences faced by her male friend.

Some people are not very fond of dating apps, but a TikTok user known as ok.jo.anna voiced her dissatisfaction after managing her friend’s account on the app.

Through this experiment, she discovered just how contrasting the experiences can be for men and women using dating apps.

Initially, she told her friend Pete that she found dating apps easy to use, a statement that perplexed Pete as he had experienced quite the opposite.

Curious, the TikToker decided to use Hinge under Pete’s identity. After a few days, she expressed her dislike for the experience, jokingly saying she was ‘more depressed than ever’ and had lost interest in women.

She explained: “One of my guy friends gave me permission to make a Hinge account for him because I was telling him how easy dating is with dating apps.

“He was telling me that it is incredibly difficult.

“I was like Pete you must be doing something wrong. And he gave me permission to create an account for him and just run the account.”

Three days later, she shared her insights.

She stated: “I have been a virtual boy for three days and I have never felt this bad about myself.

“I feel like a freaking loser, trying to get these girls to like me and I’m starting to hate women.

“Because Pete is about a six, but I am so desperate I am liking the 2s and the 3s and even they won’t like me [Pete] back.

“So what level of delusion has entered women’s heads, what is going on. It is so difficult dating as a boy, I hate it.

“I am on day 3 of being a boy and I hate women and I’m more depressed than ever.

Aside from the ethical concerns of catfishing, her experience garnered praise online for changing her views on dating apps and empathizing with different people’s struggles.

One comment read: “If you’re losing it after 3 days, imagine 30 years.”

Another noted: “Try being under 5’9 it’s even worse.”

Someone humorously remarked: “Well we got one to empathize with us boys. This small gesture of compassion should see me through another couple years.”

While jesting, perhaps a bit of empathy for the opposite sex in the realm of dating could lead to a more harmonious experience for all.
