Home is usually where one seeks comfort, but Leah’s story highlights that this isn’t always true, as she discovered when an unexpected visitor, whom she thought was a friend, arrived at her doorstep.
Leah uploaded a video before Christmas where she mentioned that she rarely checks her voicemails. However, she was prompted to do so after the visitor informed her about a message they left.
While Leah was resting with her phone set to Do Not Disturb, she missed the call. The visitor admitted to trying to reach out and acknowledged the voicemail’s existence.
The visitor confessed to Leah about making derogatory comments and began to apologize, prompting Leah to listen before checking the voicemail.
“I go look and sure enough, I have a six-minute, 59-second voicemail… The old me immediately would have crashed out, but I didn’t… I let her talk,” Leah said.
Listening to the message, Leah found herself surprised by some of the things said.
Leah recalled that just days earlier, she and these family members had been spending time together, leading her to believe they genuinely liked her.
“I got a 7-minute long voicemail of people I thought loved me talking sh*t about me together,” she shared.
Instead of sharing the voicemail on TikTok, Leah opted to tell her story to illustrate her personal growth over the year.
“When you think and react based on logic rather than emotion, you will have so much more peace,” she explained. “Not forgiving people and holding a grudge can make you so miserable.”
Leah noted that the group involved in leaving the voicemail apologized to her, and she chose to forgive them, understanding that their behavior had no justification.
“In my mind I know that this had nothing to do with me. This is their own issue,” she concluded.
