The LGBT community (also known as the LGBTQ+ community, GLBT community, or gay community) is a loosely defined group that includes lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender individuals, united by a shared culture and social movements. These communities often celebrate pride, diversity, individuality, and sexuality.  Sociologists and LGBT activists view the building of the LGBT community as a counterbalance to heteronormativity, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, sexual orientation discrimination, and the pressure to conform in broader society.

The term “pride,” or sometimes “gay pride,” reflects the collective identity and strength of the LGBT community; pride parades provide a prominent example of how this term is used and exemplified. [citation needed] The LGBT community is diverse in political ideologies. Not all lesbians, gays, bisexuals, or transgender individuals consider themselves part of the LGBT community.
