In December, Urfan Sharif was convicted of murdering his 10-year-old daughter, Sara, at their home in Surrey, UK, and was sentenced to life in prison.
Sara’s stepmother, Beinash Batool, also received a life sentence for her role in the tragic event.
The young girl was discovered dead in August 2023, following which her father and stepmother fled to Pakistan.
On December 17, 2024, the pair were sentenced, and Urfan began his sentence at HMP Belmarsh, a London prison known for holding individuals involved in high-profile cases.
Recently, Urfan was reportedly attacked by two inmates just weeks into his life sentence.
The incident happened on New Year’s Day, involving an assault with the jagged lid of a tuna tin.
The Sun reported that the 43-year-old suffered cuts to his neck and face and received medical care within the prison.
It is not believed that Urfan was taken to the hospital.
A spokesperson for the Prison Service stated: “Police are investigating an assault on a prisoner at HMP Belmarsh on January 1. It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate.”
A representative for the Metropolitan Police confirmed an ongoing investigation into ‘an allegation that a prisoner was assaulted at Belmarsh’, noting that ‘the 43-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries’.
UNILAD has reached out to the UK Prison Service for additional comments.
During Urfan’s trial last month, the court heard that Sara endured ‘unimaginable pain, misery and anxiety’ due to repeated beatings, burns, bites, and restraint at the family home.
Alongside her father and stepmother, Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, was found guilty of causing or allowing her death and was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
In a televised sentencing, Mr. Justice Cavanagh stated that Sara’s death was ‘the culmination of years of neglect, frequent assaults and what can only be described as torture’, primarily at her father’s hands.
The judge noted that the 10-year-old girl’s abuse occurred ‘in plain sight and in front of the rest of the family’.
At the time of Sara’s murder, Urfan called the police, claiming he had ‘legally punished’ the young girl.
Upon arrival, police found that Sara had suffered burns, ‘probable human bite marks’, broken bones, and extensive bruising.
