Sitting together in the audience, Gomez and Blanco were highlighted on screen as Glaser acknowledged Gomez’s nominations.
“Selena Gomez is here,” Glaser announced. “A double nominee tonight for Emilia Perez and Only Murders [In The Building], and she’s here tonight with her new fiancé Benny Blanco.
“And Benny Blanco is here because of the genie that granted that wish. Man, lucky guy.”
The duo laughed it off as Gomez playfully gestured that she felt like the lucky one, while Blanco chuckled and gave Gomez a kiss on the shoulder.
Social media users quickly reacted to Glaser’s joke. One user commented: “Selena Gomez’s fiancé, Benny Blanco, getting roasted at this year’s #GoldenGlobes was the best part of show.”
Another added, “Selena and Benny bracing for impact bc they knew Nikki was gonna roast them.”
Sharing a similar view, someone else wrote: “Selena knowing the joke would come about Benny Blanco.”

Even prior to Glaser’s jest, some Golden Globes viewers anticipated it happening.
While some thought Gomez might not take the joke well, both she and Blanco seemed to handle it with good humor.
This evening, Gomez was nominated for two awards: one for her performance in Only Murders in the Building, and another for her role in Emilia Pérez. Her co-star Zoe Saldana took home the award and delivered a heartfelt speech acknowledging Gomez.
